The Mauritius Command
ISBN: 0 00

by Patrick O'Brian
Captain Jack Aubrey is ashore, married with twin daughters living in damp
cottages in Hampshire on half pay and without a command- until Stephen Maturin
arrives with secret papers for Aubrey to take a frigate the Bodicea to the Cape
of Good Hope, under a commodores pennant. But the difficulties of carrying out
his orders are compounded by two of his own captains - Lord Clonfert a pleasure
seeking dilettante, and captain Corbett, whose severity can push his crews to
the verge of mutiny
The Times Literary Supplement: " Patrick O'Brian has written
splendid novels - of which The Mauritious Command is the latest _ recounting
episodes in the lives of naval officers Jack Aubrey and physician Steven
Mauratin.... Taken together they are a brilliant achievement. They display
staggering erudition on almost all aspects of nineteen century life with
impeccable period detail. |
